Bentley Collins, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Back Cove says, “For lovers of traditional work boat styles, the Back Cove Downeast 37 says “lobster” and for our friends from the Chesapeake she says “Deadrise”. No matter where you do your boating this boat has a look that will turn heads in any harbor that she enters.”

Some of our favorite features? The cabin with island berth accommodates a cruising couple for weeks on end.

The Herreshoff interior is fresh, light and further enhances the open and airy feel of the yacht.

In the engine room, you’ll find a Cummins 480 which will provide a cruise speed of 20 knots and top speed of 25 knots. Our first hull is fitted with a 600 hp Cummins QSC 8.3 engine. In last week’s sea trial, we found cruising performance on this hull of 25 knots and 29 knots at WOT.

The Downeast 37 — A.K.A the “crowd pleaser”

BC37DE SureShadeThe Back Cove Downeast 37 is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Owners will appreciate the open twelve foot by twelve foot cockpit with a SureShade cockpit cover; perfect for an afternoon cruise.

“The ideas that drive the Downeast 37 design are very simple:  Stop-you-in-your-tracks prettiness and the biggest, most flexible exterior spaces available on a boat this size – period.” says Kevin Burns, Vice President of Design and Product Development.

The helm deck is the perfect spot to enjoy a nice meal or play a game of cards while anchored in a calm harbor. The table is beautiful, inlaid cherry with a high gloss finish.

You’ll sit comfortably in the Stidd helm chair thanks to the forward steering position and the 360 degree view from the helm. The optional “EasyDock” thruster system will make it a breeze to maneuver in tight quarters.

Back Cove is very much looking forward to showing you around our newest model – the Downeast 37. She is practical, elegant and perfectly suited for a day trip along the coast. To learn more about the Downeast 37, please visit the website!

Practical Elegance. From Maine.

The Downeast 37 ships in less than a week!

As we see our newest model come together, one thing is apparent — this truly is the ideal platform for days on the water with family and friends!

THE GALLEY

At the base of the companionway and in close proximity to the helm is a open and streamline galley with convection microwave oven, fridge and freezer drawers and deep stainless sink. Storage is plentiful with many lockers and drawers!

THE HEAD

Even the head in the Downeast 37 is impressive. The “frameless” shower partition with a wide swing door creates a light and airy feel. This effect is further enhanced with an opening port-light in the shower and a deck hatch above the commode. Cherry framed poly doors reflect a bit of the “Herreshoff” style found in the cabin. And last but not least…what do you think of the mirror above the sink? It pivots! In other words, the ladies will think it’s fabulous!

MASTER BERTH

The master berth of the Downeast is spacious and airy with the Herreshoff style interior joinery. The image to the left shows the bulkhead reading lights above the Queen sized island berth with storage below. The best feature however is the fore-deck hatch with ocean air sky screen shade system (you can see light peeking in at the top of this image). It was designed for to ensure star gazing from the comfort of your berth!

The Downeast 37 is in Completion!

P1020719This week the Downeast 37 hull has moved into the completion bay of the production line. The boat will live here until it’s shipped out to the new owner!

In the image to the left, the gold leaf cove stripe is being applied.

Don’t you think the corner exhaust is spiffy? To learn more about why Back Cove Yachts have a corner exhaust, read this BLOG post.

As you can see, the associates have hand waxed the hull and I LOVE the red water line stripe! What do you think? What color boot stripe do you prefer?

Another great feauture of the Downeast 37? The open and spacious feel throughout thanks in part to a substantial windshield with a 360 degree view. The streamline and cohesive look is achieved by powder coating the windshield frames to match the gel coat.

Stop by next week to see the boat continue to take shape! Remember when the boat was just a glimmer in the design team’s eyes?

The Downeast 37 continues to move forward. The image on your left shows the deck and windshield installed!

All Back Cove Yachts have a traditional spoon bow with gently sloped transom. Even in the shop, this “look” is evident.

In just a few short weeks, this cockpit is going to look VERY different. As you can see in the image to your left, one can access the lazarette and engine room from the cockpit of the Downeast 37. The lazarette gives the owner access to the fuel tank and generator. The main cockpit hatch provides access to the engine, water and waste tanks and most mechanical systems.

The new SureShade extending cockpit awning was installed this week! This is the first SureShade installed in the shop – this will be standard equipment on the Downeast 37! Learn more the SureShade System in last week’s BLOG post

After the SureShade was installed in the hardtop, the team raised it with an electric chainfall and then a large group of associates help fit this key component in place.

It’s a perfect fit! Afterward the hardtop was permanently attached using structural adhesives.
