The Back Cove 41 Interior Glass Unit mold is now complete. The team at Back Cove is building the first IGU unit as we write, spraying gel coat on the mold and laying fiberglass.
What exactly is an IGU (Interior Glass Unit)? An IGU is a molded fiberglass component that includes all the necessary surfaces, platforms and steps in the interior of the boat. The Back Cove 41’s interior joinery will be fitted to this part.
The IGU is a complicated part to design and develop. A great deal of engineering hours go into designing this mold; more time is spent on an Interior Glass Unit than is spent on a hull or deck because the geometry is so complex.
